Distinguished Service Award
This award is designed to pay the highest Department tribute to an experienced Legionnaire who has consistently exhibited continuing leadership and excellence in legion programs and administration. The award is meant for Legionnaires who have been members for over 25 years or more as a member of the American Legion from any post. A posthumous award is allowable only if the nominee’s death occurred within the previous year. Current Department Legion Officers are excluded from consideration for this award. The application must be mailed by December 31, 2024.
Legionnaire of the Year Award
For the Legionnaire of the Year Award the nominee must be selected by a majority of the members at a regular post meeting before being nominated for the Department award. The selection should be based on service to the American Legion (75%) and service to community, state and nation (25%). The period of service should be January 1-December 31, 2024. Post Commanders and Department Officers are NOT eligible for this award. The application must be mailed by December 31st.
National American Legion Media Alliance
The North Dakota Press Association Award has been replaced by National’s American Legion Media Alliance. Please visit legion.org/talma/contest to review the contest rules and submit your entries electronically before the deadline of April 15. All entries must have been published during the 2024 calendar year.
Law Officer of the Year Award
The Department will be selecting the Law Officer of the Year. Take a look at those individuals who have protected your community during the period of January 1-December 31, 2024. Surely one of them is worthy of a consideration. Nominees for the Law Officer Award must be a living, active, full-time law officer affiliated with a law enforcement agency located in North Dakota. The application must be mailed by December 31st.
Baseball Hall of Fame Award
Any American Legion post within the Department of North Dakota may nominate one or more candidates for the Hall of Fame. Nominations will remain under consideration for two years, after which they will be returned to the nominating post. However, they may be resubmitted at any time. Completed forms must be submitted to Department Headquarters, PO Box 5057, West Fargo, ND 58078 not later that January 1st.
Fire Fighter of the Year Award
The Department will be selecting the Fire Fighter of the Year Award. Take a look at those individuals that have protected your community during the period of January 1-December 31, 2024, surely one of them is worthy of consideration. Nominees for the Fire Fighter award must be a living, active, full-time or volunteer fire fighter affiliated with a Fire Department located in North Dakota. The application must be mailed by December 31st.
